Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT)

Photo-dynamic therapy (PDT) is a gentle form of tumor treatment. A photo-sensitizer is given to the patient, which spreads directly on the tumor cells. Activation of the photo-sensitizer through controlled radiation with laser beam enables a phototoxic reaction in motion. This reaction leads to the destruction of the tumor cells. Healthy tissues in the vicinity remain intact.

PDT Laser - Therapy Success through Innovation

Lasers of different wavelengths are required for activating different photo-dynamically active agents.

biolitec AG has developed laser systems using the latest diode technology. These systems are compatible with the commonly-used photo-sensitizers.

Proprietary software that simplifies the operation of the treatment considerably is available for the individual applications. An integrated calibration port simplifies the precise dosage of illumination for the individual applicators.

Our multiport laser is a specialty. Up to six connections permit a simultaneous radiation of tumors with independently adjustable applicators. The advantage: laser light can be applied uniformly from different positions on voluminous tumors. As a result, complicated tumors can be treated easily and quickly.

PDT Applicators - Systematic Treatment

They are used for surface and interstitial radiation or hollow space radiation.

The microlens diffuser is ideal for surface tumors, because it guarantees a homogeneous light distribution. Cylindrical diffusers or bare fibers are used interstitially in compact tumors. A positioning grid for injection cannulas ensures uniform radiation.

biolitec AG has developed balloon diffusers for the radiation of hollow spaces such as lungs, esophagus or cervix: An active length of 20 to 40 mm is available after inflation. The laser beam is directed locally only on the tumor through precise adjustments of the cavities. Surrounding tissues are spared.
